The Founders' Medal for Lifelong Contributions to Meta-Science

The Founder’s Medal for Lifelong Contributions to Meta-Science is an award by the founding members of the MAER-Net Community recognizing exceptional, sustained contributions to advancing the field of meta-science. This award celebrates scholars whose groundbreaking work has profoundly shaped the field of meta-science.

The award is designed and manufactured in the lab of the Institute of Materials Resource Management at the University of Augsburg, made from CuBe2, a low-contained copper alloy that is thermally aged for durability and distinction.

2025 Award – Abel Brodeur

In 2025, the Founder’s Medal was awarded at the MAER-Net Colloquium in Ottawa to Professor Abel Brodeur. Through his pioneering work, Professor Brodeur has helped economics confront issues of publication bias, p-hacking, and reproducibility. As founder of the Institute for Replication, he has built a lasting platform for improving transparency and encouraging replication across the social sciences. His research and leadership have made openness and credibility a central part of empirical work in economics and related fields.

2024 Award - John Ioannidis

In 2024, the Founder’s Medal was awarded for the first time at our annual MAER-Net Colloquium at the University of Augsburg to Professor John P.A. Ioannidis. Renowned for his pioneering work in enhancing the transparency, reproducibility, and integrity of scientific research, Professor Ioannidis’ contributions have profoundly shaped the field of meta-science and set new standards for scientific rigor and accountability.
